Santa Fe Farmers Market
September 30th, 2011
Fall at the Santa Fe Farmers Market is definitely a time of abundance. The smell of roasting chiles wafting from every corner, the first of the apples popping up from local farms, and the last of the gorgeous heirloom tomatoes of the season. The rich bouquets of dahlias and cosmos are reminders of the beautiful Santa Fe summer trailing out, and the potatoes and squash are bringing the excitement for the rich cool-weather meals to come. If you are visiting Santa Fe be sure to soak in the excitement of the Farmers Market every Saturday morning year round, and Tuesday morning and Thursday evening during peak season. Enjoy the photo-tour of the market!

Try-umph
September 21st, 2011
Life is full of triumph.
Personally, I find in cooking and baking for a gluten-free and vegetarian lifestyle that there is a lot of trying, a lot of experimenting…and there is a good amount of what some might call failing. You find a recipe that looks really good, so you try it out yourself. Maybe you don’t normally consume a few of the ingredients that are called for so you test out a few substitutes. Sometimes the result is amazing. A new go-to dish that you will be enjoying every few weeks. Sometimes the results are less than amazing. But in the kitchen, I rarely call them a failure.
One reason for this is because if you are working with delicious ingredients, it is rare that combing them is going to be disgusting. Often the results are not optimal. A bit too dry one time or slightly undercooked the next…not something you would serve at a fancy banquet…but still good enough to eat!

Gluten-Free Chocolate Muffins
July 29th, 2011
Chocolate Banana Bread…becomes muffins! Ta-da!
I have to say, I think that this is a genius move…not only because it keeps me from eating a whole loaf of sweet bread in one sitting (because now I have “portions” with each muffin) but also because these muffins can totally double as cupcakes. Personally, I don’t really see too much of a difference between muffins and cupcakes. One has frosting, one doesn’t? Especially with how sweet most people make their muffins…what’s the diff?
My motivation for the muffins in the first place though was not for either of the aforementioned results… It was two-fold. Firstly, because it is summertime and my bananas are “maturing” faster than I can keep up. Secondly, because I have this odd desire lately to have muffins for breakfast every Saturday. And let me tell you, it is not pretty when I don’t have any muffins available on Saturday morning.

Vegan Chocolate Mousse
July 27th, 2011
I am eating this as I write, and I have to say, I am having a hard time taking a break to type. I just want to keep eating it.
Now this recipe is not new to me, and not new to this blog actually. I have been making it for about a year now, and was first introduced to it by my friend, ecopreneur, amazing mother and chef extraordinaire Joslyn who shared a version of this recipe on her blog. Have you checked out her blog yet? It is choc-full of the best eco-friendly advice for women, children, home owners and more…

Sweet Pea Hummus
June 28th, 2011
The Santa Fe Farmers Market has been chock full of sweet peas, sugar snap peas and english peas in the past few weeks. The abundance has been inspiring to say the least, and I have been consuming lots and lots of peas! I have not had Sweet Pea Hummus in a few years but I was definitely quick to whip it up as soon as I thought about it. It is fresh, light and delicious.

Gluten-Free Buckwheat Waffle Recipe
June 17th, 2011
Did it work? Did this sexy photo of gluten-free buckwheat waffles distract you from the Strawberry Rhubarb Sauce mess in the kitchen? Was I doing too many things at once? Probably, but sometimes I come up with so many fun ideas that when I finally get in the kitchen I get a little “gung-ho”.
These days I am basically working 4 jobs, and in the middle of that, trying to continue feeding myself with healing, nourishing foods. So long story short…I never have time to take photos of the yummy dishes because I eat them as quickly as I make them (I have about 5 recipes that I still need to photograph so that I can share them!). Today, I actually had a little time. I am coming to the end of one web design project, and about to start another, and I had the morning off from bodywork, and felt it was the perfect time to reclaim the kitchen, and finally complete my Gluten Free Buckwheat Waffle recipe.

Vegan Egg Salad Sandwich
May 21st, 2011
Where do I start? Gluten-free? Vegan? Soy Free? Or should I just tell you that this sandwich was amazing and you have to make it really soon?!
Yeah…It was so good, it is gone.
For a few days now, I have been waxing nostalgically about a delicious eggless chickpea salad that I made over a year ago from a fabulous foodie blog that I had read. I guess my bookmarking skills are still lacking, because I couldn’t find it. I thought it was from Susan V. over at FatFreeVegan but for some reason I couldn’t find the article I was looking for. I did find her recipes for Two Chickpea Salads and decided to try out her Curried Chickpea Salad recipe. I made a few modifications for my own tastes, which I will share below, and stacked it into this amazing sandwich with Udi’s Gluten Free Bread, fresh tomatoes and avocado, and home-grown sprouts! I am still salivating over it! Continue reading “Vegan Egg Salad Sandwich”

Homemade Vegan Nutella
April 22nd, 2011
Finally, I did it! I have been promising myself for way too long that I would make my own Choco-Hazelnut spread. I was super excited and looking forward to it all day. This morning I got on the ball, and toasted the hazelnuts before starting work. I let them cool, and around lunch-time I took a brief pause to remove the skins of the nuts. (Its very easy…once they have cooled you just take a bunch in your hands and rub your hands together rolling the nuts until the skins fall right off.)
Late this afternoon, I shared my excitement with a certain Elf I know, who had a bit of a different reaction than I had to the idea. Said Elf knew that I had been toasting hazelnuts, and was excited at the prospect that I might make a Chocolate Hazelnut Cake. So when I said with great excitement that I would be making Homemade Nutella, the response I received was: “Nutella is a girly thing.” What? I was shocked! Yes, I am girly. I completely own that…and I like Nutella…so with no other research, yes, one could say that Nutella is girly. But…I highly doubt that only the feminine population likes Nutella. I think I might have to put this to a vote… What do you think?
